... Jim Roemer (Dr. Weather) and Roger Hill (Radio Vermont) will be offering podcasts this winter of two different varieties.

You will find on each page from our web site both the FREE VERSION (left) and SUBSCRIBER/PAID VERSION (right)

The FREE version will be a 2-5 minute taped broadcast-several times a week

The Paid Version will be actual forecasts several times a week. Below are descriptions of each and what you will hear.

FREE VERSION FOR EVERYONE--------
Because we hold the issues of global warming and renewable energy close to our heart, we will frequently have relevant stories and updates about these important issues. It should be noted that at times, these stories may not be completely relevant to the ski industry. In addition, we will have interesting discussions related to A) How we forecast the weather; B) What El Nino is doing and some potential implications to skiing, the hurricane season, etc.; C) Other climatological variables; D) Discussions on how the weather may be affecting energy prices, such as natural gas, crude and heating oil, which is often important to a ski area's bottom line, as well as many other businesses.

I know that talking about commodities and other topics may not be of interest to everyone.

PAID VERSION FOR SUBSCRIBERS ONLY------- These reports will address the overall weather pattern and our outlook for where some of the best snow will be falling--not where it has already fallen--like most services provide. We will also have storm updates, based on many different computer models that TV meterorologists and other services, rarely look at or know how to interpret correctly.

There will also be 'written" blogs and some SKIGOGG images as well, showing some of the interesting weather maps we discuss on our podcasts. So while you listen to the podcasts, you can also follow along looking at the weather maps. WHEN LISTENING TO THE BROADCAST/PODCAST---click on "more" on the blog to follow along.

If we do not address a forecast at the resort of your choice, we will try our best to at least give a general idea of where the best snow will be.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS ABOUT PODCASTS

Why should I subscribe to a Weather Podcast when there is so much free weather around on TV, the radio and the web?

Quite simply? We're better. Our podcasts are not only entertaining and interesting, but you will find none other quite like them. Very few, if any meteorologists, know how to forecast for the mountains. Most computer models are subject to the whims of the "Butterfly Effect", in which small misinterpretations can escalate into major errors.

In addition, we have interesting discussions such as: Why all meteorologists blew this year's hurricane season forecast and how we differed; How weather might effect energy prices; Where to make plans to ski days or weeks in advance; Is it really possible to forecast longer range weather patterns.

Finally, with your subscription, you will also receive various written, flash reports that are updated everyday as to where the best powder may be and why we might differ with other forecasting firms.

I AM A SKI RESORT/BUSINESS--CAN I ADVERTISE ON YOUR PODCASTS?

Yes, we already have several ski resorts sponsoring our reports. Many ski areas trade ski tickets with us, which we package and sell together with other weather information for skiers/snowboarders

WHY ARE PODCASTS A GOOD ADVERTISING VEHICLE FOR MY SKI AREA OR BUSINESS? WHAT ARE THEY EXACTLY?

I'd like to introduce you to podcasting--------this is a new and exciting way to reach tens of thousands of skiers and snowboarders at a fraction of the cost of conventional advertising.

Podcasting (define) is the newest trend resulting from Apple's popular iPod, though there's no association between it and the Apple brand.

Quite simply, podcasting is a method of delivering audio content from the Web to consumers' iPods around the world. The medium was spearheaded by an unlikely character: former MTV VJ Adam Curry. With the help of RSS (define) inventor Dave Winer, Curry launched the media aggregator software used to , called iPodder, in August 2004.

Via RSS, podcasting allows Internet users to download original audio programs, homemade radio shows some call "audio blogs," even some newscasts and public radio broadcasts. These audio files are posted on blog-type sites that also house overviews of podcast content. Though it's possible to listen via PC, most podcast subscribers prefer to use iPods or other MP3 players as the playback device. This gives them complete freedom to listen wherever they are, whenever they like.

Although it's only been available to the public for 18 months , podcasting is well on its way to becoming a mainstream communications channel. There are an estimated 5,000 active podcasts to date, with more popping up each day. There's something for everyone, from computer programmers to cat lovers (one Canadian podcast is recorded from the family feline's perspective). Sites such as PodcastAlley.com make it easy to find a podcast that's just your cup of tea.

As with blogs, audiences are still rather small. The larger podcasts have subscribers in the low thousands. Although it took interactive advertisers years to clue in to blogs' promotional potential, it appears podcasting won't have to wait. Already, a few plucky marketers are testing the medium. Most are tech-related companies chasing after Internet-savvy early adopters.

Those podcasts able to attract advertisers generally charge a flat fee. Sponsorships typically involve a short audio ad imbedded in the podcast content, along with a button or banner on the associated site, or a link included in online podcast entries. Marketers may soon take a cue from corporate bloggers and publishing their own podcasts. Currently, most podcasts are free, yet there's plenty of potential to develop podcasts featuring specialized content and charge for the feeds.

Because our weather service is so unique , timely and accurate, we have been approached by several businesses to potentially expand our broadcasts into everything from futures trading to golf. With that, comes the potential to help advertisers promote their products.

An advantage podcasts have over blogs is users can listen at their convenience, so advertising can't be deemed overly intrusive.
